The New York Times has just published a story by Adam Goldman and Michael Schmidt stating that Rob Rosenstein suggested he secretly record Trump and discussed the 25th Amendment. (I can’t link to it, but Mark Sumner has written a diary about it.) This is anonymously sourced, and it couldn’t come at a worse time.
Whether or not we like everything that Rosenstein has done, he is the person who has protected the Mueller Investigation. And, Mueller is making such significant progress. So, why would the Times publish this story right now? This provides just the evidence Trump needs to fire Rosenstein, and “root out corruption” in the FBI. I’m publishing this now to get it out because I am so angry.
Not only is this story bad timing for Mueller, but also for Christine Blasey Ford! After Trump’s negative tweets about her this morning, the entire news cycle should have been about what Trump said, how the Republicans are pushing to get this nomination through rather than finding out the truth, and why an FBI investigation is so important. But, what this story about Rosenstein also does is cast doubt upon the integrity of the FBI.
I know some of you will criticize me for venting. Others will feel I should spend more time discussing the article itself. But, the only thing I truly care about right now is that I believe at my core that the New York Times has sunk to a new low. They have published an anonymously sourced article that jeopardizes the Mueller Investigation, gives Trump the ammunition he has so badly wanted to fire Rosenstein, and has pushed the importance of the Ford testimony to a back burner!

P.S. I have written an email to Michael Schmidt telling him how I feel about his article, and I suggested that he read the hundreds of negative comments written by other Democrats. I also castigated him for being a media whore whose byline is more important to him than our democracy!
I have written an email to Nicolle Wallace saying that rather than applauding Michael Schmidt for getting the scoop, she should have questioned his motives for writing this damaging story with no named sources, and should have noted that most democrats who have read the article and commented on the NYT site, believe Schmidt was played by the White House or is a dupe.
Finally, I have emailed Rachel Maddow and suggested she look into why Schmidt was allowed to publish such a damning story, which threatens our very democracy, when there are no named sources. I said Schmidt and the New York Times have done more damage to our country today than Fox News and Breitbart combined!
