Good morning, all. Happy Sunday!
A few weeks ago, I wrote a KTK diary about one of my favorite YouTube channels, Jas Townsend and Son. From the diary:
Jas Townsend and Son is a family-owned business in Pierceton, Indiana, that sells reproduction colonial goods. Jonathan Townsend, the son of founder James Townsend, now runs the business—and also a YouTube channel, which focuses on recreating recipes from the 18th century. If you’re thinking that sounds unbearably nerdy, it kind of is. As you can see above, he does his videos in period clothing. Not only does he try to recreate the food (as best as he can using modern ingredients), but he also recreates the cooking methods—meaning that the wood fire stove is well used. If you’re into “living history” type stuff, his channel is a goldmine. It is one of my true guilty pleasures (only guilty because I watch it when I should be grading or doing other things).
If you go to the original diary, you will be able to read about a weird controversy involving Trump and Martha Washington’s “orange fool” recipe (in addition to some of my favorite videos from the channel), but that’s not the subject of this post. This is New Day Cafe, so the theme is breakfast—and the channel does not disappoint in this department. However, I guess what struck me was how similar this first colonial breakfast was to our typical breakfast today:
And finally, there are two breakfast sausage recipes, one from the 17th century and one from the 19th century:
There’s so much more! If your interest is piqued, I would again encourage you to visit the channel and explore—and give the guy a subscription. It’s about the most wholesome way you can binge YouTube videos.
What do you want to chat about this morning?
All are welcome to join the fun, the silliness, the conversations. If you don’t know...just ask! Some things really do require a bit of explanation.
There will be a few surprises along the way, all good ones, we hope.
We are here to keep building the Daily Kos Community.
We post Mon-Sun at 10:30 a.m. Eastern. On Sunday we go to the C!U!A! posting to show support for all the work for November’s elections. Please to join us there, as well.
Pie fights will be met with outrageous ridicule and insults. Trolls will be incinerated and served at the next group BBQ. As briquettes.
