Hello all, I’m new to the Daily Kos and thought I would write my first post about the Senate race in my own state. So without any more B.S., on with the article!
The Texas Senate Race is going to be one of the most watched on November 6th, and many Democrats are hopeful that they will pick off a GOP Seat in Texas. It has always been a dream of Democrats to take Texas, and put in their column. Although they hope, it NEVER happens, but Dems. think it will now.
Let’s get into the details of it, Beto O’Rourke is a Extreme Democrat, and Ted Cruz is an Extreme Republican. These two candidates are causing so much polarization, that Texas will choose someone from the Extreme Side of their party, which doesn’t give the vast majority of Texans their Moderate Voice in the Senate. Many people from both sides, mostly Moderates, probably won’t vote due to both candidates being extreme.
If we look at polls, Ted Cruz has been consistently leading in polls, and the RCP Average, while O’Rourke leads in a few. The realism of this is: a couple polls isn’t good enough. In order to win in Texas, you have to get out the Independent and Moderate vote, and neither are doing a good job at it.
We have to face the fact that Texas is a RED STATE and if O’Rourke loses, you can’t be that surprised. You cannot expect a Far Left Congressman to unseat a Fairly Popular Republican Senator in the state of Texas. If we dissect the race, we can see that the base for either candidate is the extreme side.
I have been to both O’Rourke and Cruz events, and with 1st hand experience, I can tell you Ted Cruz rallies have a lot more people there than O’Rourke rallies. Rallies aren’t the only thing that matters in an election though, what also matters is Debates.
In the debate last Friday, many expected Beto O’Rourke to win, yet the opposite happened. Senator Ted Cruz was constantly attacking, while Beto diverted a lot of time to talking about him visiting every county and Pecan Farmers. Going to a county where the Democratic primary got 4 votes, isn’t going to win you a Senate Election in a Republican state. The next Senate Debate will be on either next Sunday or the next, next Sunday (I can’t remember). This would be the chance for Representative O’Rourke to prove his dominance in the race, and try to cross the finish line. If O’Rourke does well, the race could change drastically, and if Senator Cruz wins, the race could move to the Likely Republican column.
With all this said, none of us know the exact outcome of this race, so we’ll just have to see what happens in November!
