Just because Sen. Lindsey Graham sounds like a character from an old movie starring Paul Newman, Joanne Woodward, and Orson Welles, does not mean he’s a nice guy. Sen. Graham has used his light-touch way of speaking to cover up for his partisan hackery. In many respects, Sen. Graham is just the younger, more Southern-lilted version of Utah’s answer to hell, Orrin Hatch. Here’s Sen. Graham trying to rally his fellow Republican senators during a break from hearing from Dr. Christine B. Ford.
I think we've been very fair. And to my Republican colleagues, if you can ignore everything in this record, looking at an allegation that's 35 years old, that's uncertain in time, place, date and no corroboration, if that's enough for you, God help us as Republicans. Because this happens to us. It never happens to them. But let me tell you, my Democratic friends, if this is the new norm, you better watch out for your nominees.
Forget about the transparent lie about it never happening to Democrats (can we ask Sen. Graham about Merrick Garland?). I guess all that refusing to even hold a hearing never happened, and trying to do a serious job while dealing with a circus hearing for a perjuring and possibly sexually assaulting lying liar is unbearable partisan unfairness. The threat to attack Democratic nominees? That fits with a Republican Party that doesn’t show even the smallest bit of appreciation for our country’s Constitution or the concept of decency.
