Fifty years ago saw the launch of TV programs such as Mod Squad, 60 Minutes, and Adam 12. At this time American automobiles dominated the market and provided a range of vehicles, including muscle cars with large engines. Shown below are some examples of 1968 automobiles.
Mercury Cougar
This car is on display in the LeMay Family Collection in Tacoma, Washington. This was Mercury’s answer to the Ford Mustang. It sold new for $3,232.
Mercury Cougar GT-E
This car is on display in the World of Speed in Wilsonville, Oregon. According to the Museum display:
“The Cougar GT-E was the Mustang’s wealthier older brother; it was a muscle car for buyers who wanted to not just ride fast, but ride comfortably.”
Ford Mustang
This car is on display in the LeMay—America’s Car Museum in Tacoma, Washington. This a recreation of the “Bullitt” car.
Shelby Mustang GT500
This car is on display in the World of Speed in Wilsonville, Oregon. According to the Museum display:
“The Mustang was already a car that would go down in the annals of history, but the ones built by race driver and legendary car designer Carroll Shelby are especially renowned.”
