Ten days ago in my email box I received the following missive from Daily Kos --
Bob, the November election is 35 days away and we need all hands on deck to get out the vote for Democrats.
Here's a fun volunteer activity I did on Sunday that did not require making phone calls or going door-to-door, and can be done from any part of the country.
Write letters to Democratic voters who live in swing districts, and who need an extra "nudge" to get them to vote. Click here to volunteer with Vote Forward.
and I just now volunteered. Here are some details:
Vote Forward organizes volunteers to write heartfelt, handwritten “please vote” letters to registered voters in swing states or swing districts who do not have the best track record when it comes to actually voting. However, through careful analysis, Vote Forward knows that if these voters do cast ballots, they are highly likely to vote Democratic.
You sign up, say how many letters you can write and Vote Forward will assign you some targeted voters. You then print out the letters, write them & place them in an envelope. Near the end of October (in the final week of the election), you will be asked to mail them out.
It's really just that simple, and it also works. In a test run during the 2017 special election for U.S. Senate in Alabama -- where Democratic U.S. senator Doug Jones won a narrow victory -- a rigorous statistical analysis determined that this get out the vote activity increased turnout by 3%!
