So far two Beto campaign advertisements have aired in the northern Austin suburb where I live. The first was extracted from video of one or more of his 254 county tour of Texas. It was a well done introduction video, though no where on par with the quality of advertisements coming from the MJ Hegar TX-31 campaign. About two weeks after this ad aired, a PAC attack ad came out vicariously painting Beto’s voting record as a MS-13 lover and open border dude and Sheriff hater, which fact checkers later painted as falsehoods.
Beto’s response was to post an advertisement pointing out the attack ads and talking about how he will represent all Texans. His short speech was soaring rhetoric and appropriate response to the attack ads. However, the format was shaky with too much closeup and the production was poorly planned. Finally, this advertisement has been running for days which is too long in this day and age.
Since the initial PAC attack, Cruz has posted an effective advertisement touting the strong Texas economy then attacking Beto’s voting record “against” the oil industry with the usual increase TAX canard.
In my opinion, Beto is loosing the advertisement war and he should seek out the advertising folks who are working with MJ Hegar’s campaign. They have posted several advertisements with outstanding production values. Very well told stories with spot-on segues from scene to scene, with each scene vividly supporting the story narrative. Her latest ad, “Closest Call”, is a great example of a trifecta — telling a compelling story, telling what she will do for her people, and attacking the GOP incumbent’s record on health care.
I believe Beto needs to start telling stories of the horrors of the current immigration crisis with details of how he would work to reform immigration and use the medium of great video to accent and enhance the stories. He could also find many instances of health care atrocities and detail plans to reform health care.
I posted a review of their campaign ads earlier but the diary didn’t get much traction. I feel compelled to repost with a stronger title because Beto will lose this election if he doesn’t start engaging with more people with quality, effective campaign advertisements. With only 25 days left, this needs to start soon! I hope some of his campaign people are dKos readers.
