We have now entered some interesting speculative territory that is being reported in Turkey and via CNN and MSNBC.
Sensing the possibility of foul play, Jamal Khashoggi set his watch up to record before he stepped into the Saudi embassy in Istanbul.
This would be in addition to the report that Turkish authorities have both video and audio surveillance recordings.
Khashoggi turned on the recording function of his Apple Watch before walking into the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2 , according to Sabah newspaper.
The moments of his "interrogation, torture and killing were audio recorded and sent to both his phone and to iCloud," the pro-government, privately owned newspaper paper reported. The Turkish newspaper said conversations of the men involved in the reported assassination were recorded.
Security forces leading the investigation found the audio file inside the phone Khasshoggi left with his fiancé, according to Sabah.

It was not immediately clear whether it would have been technically feasible for Khashoggi's Apple phone (watch) to transfer audio to his phone, which he had given to his fiancee before entering the consulate.
CNN cannot independently verify Sabah report and is seeking comment from both Saudi and Turkish officials.

One of the Saudi men was identified by Turkey's official Anadolu Agency and Sabah as Salah Muhammed al-Tubaiqi. He is listed on an official Saudi health website as the head of the forensic medicine department at the interior ministry.
Another member of the group identified by Turkish official media, Muhammad Saad al-Zahrani, has appeared on Saudi state TV alongside MBS.
Saudi Arabia has found itself further isolated over the disappearance of Jamal Khashoggi after the business world turned its back on a high-profile investment conference in the kingdom and US officials claimed audio and video recordings had captured the moment the journalist was murdered in Istanbul.
The Future Investment Initiative conference, to be held in Riyadh later this month, was rapidly turning into a fiasco on Friday after most media partners and several top business allies pulled out. More were expected to follow. All said they had been disturbed by the circumstances of Khashoggi’s disappearance from the Saudi consulate in Turkey and the lack of credible responses.

On Friday, US officials revealed to Khashoggi’s employer, the Washington Post, that Turkish investigators had claimed audio and video tapes existed of conversations between the missing 59-year-old and his alleged killers.
“You can hear his voice and the voices of men speaking Arabic,” an official said. “You can hear how he was interrogated, tortured and then murdered.” The references to recordings could suggest that Turkish intelligence officers had bugged the consulate or some of the accused killers.

Some are calling for POTUS* to actually do something rather than divert attention over Turkey’s Andrew Brunson’s release in what may be a Bill Shiney object for the Trump base, in terms of religious persecution in the wake of the coup attempt.
More interesting for #TrumpRussia would be whether it was also associated with an attempt to swap Brunson for Fethullah Gulen, another rendition that Michael Flynn may have been organizing for the Turks.
On the disinformation front Trump claims to know nothing, but apparently does, and his idiot son cherry picks information.
TRUMP: "Again, this took place in Turkey, and to the best of our knowledge Khashoggi is not a US citizen, is that right? He's a permanent resident, okay... as to whether we should stop $110b from being spent in this country, that would not be acceptable to me."

The watch is apparently a canard to disinform media away from the Turks’ surveillance set-up.
Robert Baer told Anderson Cooper 360 he believes any audio recordings from inside the consulate could only have come from equipment the Turkish government placed inside the building.
"I think what's happened, clearly, is the Turks have the Saudi consulate wired, they have transmitters," Baer said.
"The Turks don't trust any diplomats and they have been into most embassies and most consulates in Turkey and they listen to what's going on -- and if indeed there are tapes proving that he was murdered, I think that's probably how they know. But the Turks are very reluctant to admit that."
A former Turkish diplomat with knowledge of Turkey's security operations said he agreed with Baer. He said he'd be surprised if Turkey did not have recording equipment in the Saudi consulate and other critical embassies. "The Apple Watch is a silly distraction," he said.
