My previous title photo was the elephant with the trunk and the girl. I was never really comfortable with that choice for this diary. This photo “Love trumps Hate” appealed to me initially. I hesitated to use it because there is so much stress and anger and fear about the election and it has led to understandable veering from our principles to “fight fire with fire” and “an eye for an eye”.While I appreciate the sentiment , having lived through the Sixties, and now living through the Trump era, I know from my experience that Love trumps Hate.
We can’t move beyond Trump until we accept how much of our “national Shadow” he carries for Americans. This is the opportiunity for us as Americans to deal with our darkest past . . .genocide and slavery and all the ways we fall short of our ideals and the face we wish to show the world. Trump is that face, and the “golden shores” of America that beckoned to so many, my family included, is being revealed as having been built on a foundation of oppression.
It doesn’t mean our ideals and principles, enshrined in our Constitution, are not worthy of maintaining. Quite the contrary, once we accept our darkness, our trumpiness as a nation, our underlying racism, sexis, ism ism,..we are then freed to accept our true gold. Our worth as a beacon of liberty and hope for a world.
The World depends on U.S, — US — for so much. If we disintegrate into authoritariansim and civil war the rest of the world goes with us.
LOVE TRUMPS HATE . .TRUMPS HATE LOVE. LET’S NOT GIVE TRUMP WHAT HE WANTS — A MUD WRESTLING CONTEST. WE NEED TO COME TOGETHER IN LOVE AND IN PEACE, IN THE GREAT TRADITION OF MLK, GHANDI, MANDELA. THIS IS NOT AN ELECTION, IT IS THE CULMINATION OF A MOVEMENT THAT STARTED WITH THE WOMEN’S MARCH AFTER INAUGERATION. THE LARGEST PEACEFUL DEMONSTRTIONS ALL OVER THE WORLD EVER SEEN ON ONE DAY. THAT’S WHAT WE NEED NOVEMBER 6 TO BE LIKE. A DAY WHEN EVERY MAN WOMAN AND MILLENIAL ELIGIBLE TO VOTE MARCH OURSELVES DOWN TO OUR POLLING PLACE AND
