This week’s Rumination is from chloris creator:
“There’s been a lot of talk lately on how that Supreme Court fight made us weak and destroyed our determination. But although I was angry and depressed, I know my own will never wavered. Because the other side is so awful that I simply cannot accept what they are doing. So even if I am in tears, I will still vote (I already voted), will still give money, will still fight.
And it seems that a large part of the country feels the same way. So vote, and/or work to get out the vote! And fight the corruption, and the attempts to steal the election, by shining lights on these attempts and by protesting.”
On to a bit of Good Gnus
“New work at the intersection of atmospheric science and ecology is finding that forests can influence rainfall and climate from across a continent.
…
Mist hangs over the Amazon rain forest shortly after sunrise. Forests routinely transfer extraordinary amounts of water vapor into the atmosphere — the equivalent of “flying rivers” — and scientists are only beginning to understand the complex consequences for rainfall and climate at remote locations.
WYgalinCali brought us quite a few Good Gnus on Friday
Re-aiming our response to climate change:
Mary Annaïse Heglar, Senior Policy Publications Editor for the National Resources Defense Councl: The big lie we’re told about climate change is that it’s our own fault
The dominant narrative around climate change tells us that it’s our fault. We left the lights on too long, didn’t close the refrigerator door, and didn’t recycle our paper. I’m here to tell you that is bullshit. If the light switch was connected to clean energy, who the hell cares if you left it on? The problem is not consumption — it’s the supply. And your scrap paper did not hasten the end of the world.
Don’t give in to that shame. It’s not yours. The oil and gas industry is gaslighting you.
That same IPCC report revealed that a mere 100 companies are responsible for 71 percent of global climate emissions. These people are locking you and everything you love into a tomb. You have every right to be pissed all the way off. And we have to make them hear about it.
The Week in Review
Once again I’ve rounded up the following list from Friday’s Cheers and Jeers with homage to Bill in Portland Maine. He posts a popular Who Won the Week? poll on Friday evenings. Please vote in his poll, Rec his diary, and get on his bandwagon. His poll now has almost 2500 votes. C&J archive and future editions here. Many more than 2 thanks to the amazing Billeh!
- The Democratic activists who swarmed the Senate Saturday to protest the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh---over 160 were arrested for standing up against the sexual assault creep and serial perjurer
- Missouri Circuit Judge Richard Callahan, for stripping out several provisions in the state's 2016 Voter ID law, then adding: “Unlike an American Express Card, you may leave home without it, at least on election day.”
- Peace for slain gay University of Wyoming student Matthew Shepard, as his remains will be interred at Washington National Cathedral 20 years after his murder
- NASA astronaut Nick Hague and Russian cosmonaut Alexey Ovchinin, who had to abort a mission to the Space Station during liftoff, and managed to land safely back on earth
- The Center for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), which forced U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley to resign in disgrace after they caught her taking huge gifts of private plane trips from donors, and being a Hatch Act violator*

- All the towns and cities that chose to celebrate Indigenous Peoples' Day Monday instead of Whatzisface's Day
- The Washington Supreme Court, which struck down the death penalty in the state

What are you doing for the Resistance?
I’ll go first: OMFG, Gnusies and Readers and Kosacks, look what you did! You made me cry this morning, and I’m very grateful! (Maybe you gnu I would be.)
The ActBlue box to the right shows you’ve raised $225 for my neighboring US House Democratic candidate, Haley Stevens. I posted my first diary of the series on Friday night: I'm angry about Kavanaugh, and so are you - Express it! - Give to Haley Stevens, and take the House.
The district Haley Stevens wants to represent is MI-11, currently represented by the execrable Dave Trott, who heartlessly harvested millions off the backs of people struggling to pay mortgages in Michigan.
Haley Stevens’ website and Ballotpedia and Twitter.
So far, we’ve crowd-sourced $225 toward our $250 goal! I’ll ask the campaign to raise the goal to $500 tomorrow Here’s the ActBlue page that I requested from her campaign. I’d welcome your donation. Using this ActBlue page to donate to Haley allows me to track donations crowd-sourced specifically from Daily Kos. Please use it.
Haley’s opponent does the usual execrable Republigreedy things. Her opponent is not a bad person, just confused: She chaired the Michigan campaign of the Russian puppet now in the White House. Her campaign is self-funded; she works for a family-owned corporation.
“All the gnus that’s fit to print”
As you may know, I choose to create a potluck style of Roundup due to family commitments. I therefore ask you, my friends: Please bring your national Good News to this Sunday potluck.
May I suggest that you pop in later or several times today, to see the gnus our commenters have herded to today’s Roundup.
How to bring your Good Gnus here
- What’s your take on Good News for the nation?
- What are you doing to turn your rage and frustration into action?
Power with, not power over,
2thanks
Update 10/14, 12:30 p.m. ET: We surpassed our fundraising goal and are almost 80% of the way to our second goal of $500: We now have raised $385. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! $385 / 16 donations = average donation of $24/donation.
