Getting tired of all those DNC and DSCC-sponsored television ads over the past year, run all over the nation, highlighting how the Trump/GOP tax law has ballooned the deficit and made it more possible than ever for the Republicans to target Americans’ earned Social Security and Medicare benefits?
I haven’t -- because there really hasn’t been any! No coordinated Democratic messaging on this issue at all.
The GOP can sleep easily at night, knowing that the secret internal Republican poll and memo which worried that there might be “a fairly disciplined Democrat attack against the recent tax cuts" was actually no worry for the Republicans: there turned out to be absolutely no disciplined Democratic attack against the tax cuts after all.
While Bob Casey in Pennsylvania has had the common sense to make this a campaign issue, the Democratic leadership responsible for crafting national electoral strategy has not.
No DNC-sponsored TV ads all over the nation highlighting how the GOP tax law has ballooned the deficit.
No large group of Democrats assembled on the Capitol steps with a huge banner warning the public that the Republicans will soon be going after Social Security and Medicare.
No coordinated campaign by congressional Democrats to appear on TV to decry GOP entitlement-slashing.
By now, the American public — including even Trump voters — should instinctively associate the words “GOP” and “Republicans” with “Putting the Nation Into Debt” and “Cutting My and My Family’s Earned Social Security and Medicare Benefits.”
Yes, there has been a concerted effort to make the GOP’s efforts to get rid of Obamacare’s pre-existing conditions protection clause into a campaign issue, and that is good.
But it is not sufficient. The most stupidly obvious national campaign strategy has been ignored by the Democratic party electoral strategy “brain trust”. The same idiocy which informed Hillary’s campaign not to bother setting foot in Wisconsin during the GE was not an aberration, as it seems to permeate — and has permeated for years — within the DNC, DSCC, etc.
