Some of you may have read about the recent proposed rule change for how HHS defines gender in this country. It's a way to dehumanize transgender people as well as a canary in the coal mine for how they intend to treat the rest of the rainbow.
My husband Ian went on testosterone late last year. It's been an incredible journey for him and for me. We've been together for 17 years, married for 12. I can say with 100% confidence that he's never been as happy or comfortable as he is now that he's able to be his true self.
As we come up on a year anniversary of him living outwardly as a man, Ian has been excited to finally get his doctor to sign off on him going down to the courthouse and officially changing his gender on all his legal ID. Only now that is in doubt. The next step of his life is in danger of being denied to him, all for some cheap political stunt to gin up the transphobic knuckle dragging rubes that the GOP desperately needs to come to the polls.
We are, frankly, panicked. Between raising our 2 kids, work, and dealing with his transition life is hectic enough, and now the Trump administration is trying to deny the love of my life his humanity. I'm beyond enraged, far past furious, incensed, apoplectic even.
These monsters will always find a new low to stoop to.
Please, I know that us trans folks (yes I say us, as part of my husband's journey and dealing with his dysphoria we found out that, surprise! I'm nonbinary!) are a small population. That you might not know any of us. That there's so many more things to call your congresscritters about.
But please. Call. Register your voice in opposition to what's about to be done to my family. We are the few and the marginalized. We can't make our voices heard alone.
Thank you.
