If you’re rich and from China or Russia or the Ukraine, you can easily purchase your child’s birthright.
Just a little over a year ago, Katie Zavadski authored a great article in Daily Beast called “Russians Flock to Trump Properties to Give Birth to U.S. Citizens.” Read the full article HERE .
I call it “Birth Boutiques” in Florida, where hundreds of foreign-born couples pay for a birthing vacation, often at Trump properties. Several companies advertise rentals in Trump properties to expectant Russian parents.
The author pointed out that “while the Trump Organization” (currently under investigation) “does not directly profit from subleases of privately owned condos, it does benefit from Russian patronage of the nearby Trump International Beach Resort.”
Evidently, the Miami suburbs are a hot spot for rich Russians getting away from Russia’s winter weather and delivering a baby who will achieve U.S. citizenship. Some of the shops in the area cater to Russians, between a Russian deli and other shops that cater to Russian tastes—which are right across the street from Trump International Beach Resort, Trump Palace and Trump Royale.
The companies that call themselves “birth-tourism” companies offer packages including Trump apartments for upwards of $75,000 and more for Trump Tower II, which includes a gold-tiled bathtub & a chauffeured Cadillac Escalades or Mercedes Benz.
Trump’s name is all over this bizarre scam. The name is used in advertising and recruiting. Participants in the “Birth Boutiques” share their stories and pictures using “hashtags like ‘births in Miami’ to publicize their posts.” These businesses and the amenities they provide (yoga, get-togethers, and medical care) are often found in close proximity to Trump properties.
Some were concerned when Trump began talking about eliminating birthright American citizenship, but as one birth tourist explained it to the Daily Beast, “When Trump was elected, he said he wanted to eliminate citizenship based on place of birth,” Tanya Yanyginav clarified, “But he said that in reference to people from the Middle East and Mexico.”
So, what are we to do with this?
Hispanic and Middle Eastern children and families are going to be denied citizenship because they walked here?
But, Chinese, Russian, and Ukrainian children and families are granted citizenship because they flew here?
The caravan migrants are, mostly, fleeing life-threatening conditions. They still have over 1,000 dangerous miles to cover and will be “greeted” with armed National Guardsmen/women and face living in tents until they get their time in court to plead for asylum, which could be 2-3 years. Those who are not granted asylum will be dismissed and sent back home.
These children who claim & receive asylum begin working as soon as they are able. They pay taxes to the U.S., and pay into Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid (though they cannot receive the benefits from those payments).
This is while those flying here and spending tens of thousands of dollars at resorts are greeted by chauffeurs and offered yoga and medical care, essentially taking a short vacation with a lot of perks who will get on planes and fly home. No vetting. No background checks. No contributions to our society (unless your name is Donald Trump). They don’t work here. They don’t pay taxes here.
The babies born while their parents were on long, expensive vacations will have a shot at financial aid in our schools and easier access to jobs here. When they turn 21, they can apply for family reunification to bring parent and non-citizen green cards to come here.
Does this strike anyone else as . . .
What’s the word? . . .
Let me think . . .
Oh, yeah—HYPOCRITICAL?
