There’s been a lot of focus on the counts and recounts in high-profile races in Florida and Georgia. But there are also some runoff elections coming up soon — which means more opportunities for donate, volunteer and get the word out.
But first, a word from our sponsor!

Mississippi Senator: This one almost slipped under the radar because it’s in deep-red Mississippi. The current percentages stand at 41.5% for Republican Cindy Hyde-Smith, 40.6% for Democrat Mike Espy. Which sounds impressive, until you realize that another Republican (Chris McDaniel) was splitting the vote, so the actual result was more like 58% Republicans, 42% Democrats.
There are still some good reasons to make a fight of this one. Runoff elections have a lower turnout, and not all of McDaniel’s voters will show up for Hyde-Smith. Meanwhile, Cindy Hyde-Smith made a jaw-dropping comment in praise of a supporter: "If he invited me to a public hanging, I'd be on the front row." A lynching joke while running against an African-American man in Mississippi is a whole new level of appalling, and she’s been doubling down since then. The black vote was largely what put Doug Jones over the top in Alabama, and the black population is larger in Mississippi. One more knock against Hyde-Smith: *resident Drumpf will be down there stumping for her, which has been a pretty good predictor of candidates losing.
Here are some ways you can help, from inside or outside Mississippi.
Georgia Secretary of State: Democrat John Barrow (not to be confused with John Barrowman) is up against Republican Brad Raffenserger on November 30th, with early voting starting November 26th. The winner will be the one who oversees future elections in Georgia, deciding if we get fair elections or purges and massive voter suppression. Brian Kemp wouldn’t even be in the running for governor right now if he hadn’t found excuses to purge thousands upon thousands of voters off the rolls.
Again, volunteers can help from Georgia or outside.
And of course you can donate to both candidates through ActBlue.
On to Top Comments!
From Mike the Liberal:
This little comment from Randolph06 sticks out as one of the best responses in Jen Hayden’s diary Twitter users slam dunk on Marco Rubio after he fumbles sports analogy about Florida vote count. There are probably many others, but I saw this one first and it fits with the Turtle’s wish for “bipartisanship”.
From ursulafaw:
Lil Blue Sock posted a great comment in my article, Conman Matt Whitaker Hawked Time Travel, Bigfoot Dolls.....It's very funny. It's so funny it would make a great New Yorker cartoon caption.
From your humble (if antisocial) diarist:
It really grinds my gears when people like Marco Rubio quote the Bible in self-serving ways. So in First Amendment’s diary Florida Senator who tweets Bible verse to defend his recount conspiracy is owned on Twitter, I enjoyed seeing Rubio getting schooled by Lamont Cranston with some verses of Isaiah, Marianne C with Proverbs, and Judge Moonbox with some Gospel — plus a side of Shakespeare from kuvasz. And Captain Frogbert corrected Rubio’s sports metaphor.
