TJ Cox is only 1983 votes behind incumbent Republican Congressman David Valado in California’s 21st Congressional District as the mail ballots continue to be counted.
The issue for Valadao (R) is that Kern Co. hasn't reported in a while, and we suspect there are about ~6K uncounted ballots there, which would net out to a 1,500-2,000 vote gain for Cox (D), almost erasing Valadao's current districtwide lead.
If Democrat TJ Cox ends up winning the district it will be an upset even though this district is one of the seven in California that voted for Hillary Clinton. CA CD-21 was called by most media for Valadao based on his election day performance.
The latest results were from 1371 votes counted in Fresno County which came in 556 votes for Valadao (40.6%) and 815 votes for Cox (59.6%). Valadao has been leading in Fresno County on November 8, but the mail ballots are coming in for Cox in three of the four counties.
Here's a breakdown of votes counted through Thursday AM of last week and votes -----counted *since* then. Major improvement for Cox in every county in late-counted votes. Not sure who I'd rather be. AP & networks still have this race *called* for Valadao, which is inarguably wrong.

Indicted Congressman Duncan Hunter (CA CD-50) won reelection to his Republican district , but has a federal court date on December 3. Hw may well be required to resign as part of a plea deal.

If Hunter were convicted and needed to be replaced, it would mean a special election. In California, a special election is typically called within 14 days to fill a House seat. The election is held 126 to 140 days after the election proclamation. That means a vacant seat could remain empty for quite some time.

A new update from Kings County in CA CD-21 shows Valadao now 2150 votes ahead. As expected, the Republican continues to run ahead when results from that county post.
Mail results from the other three counties in the district continue to favor Cox. Kern County, where Cox is running far ahead, should post new results Monday and Fresno County on Wednesday.
