In Oregon, the Pacific Ocean beaches are public lands. Siletz Bay is located on the southern edge of Lincoln City in the historic Taft district. In 1855, Siletz Bay was part of the Coast Reservation established by by executive order of President Franklin Pierce. In 1892, the reservation was broken up by the General Allotment Act and the Siletz Bay area was opened up to legal non-Indian settlement. Shown below are some photographs of the beach at Siletz Bay.
The Taft Dock
The Taft Dock was built in the early 1920s. In 1925, Lincoln County Logging began bringing logs out of the Siletz watershed and the Taft Dock became a hub of activity. More than 800 million board feet was towed over the Siletz Bar.
A new dock was built in 1948 and in 1974 the dock and the land were deeded to Lincoln City.
