For one Kansas City resident, Representative Emanuel Cleaver II’s commitment to his district went far beyond service in Congress. This report from KSHB covers the fiery holiday crash:
U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver II on Friday helped pull a man from a vehicle after a a fiery head-on crash in Kansas City, according to his office.
The crash involving a pickup truck and a Corvette turned deadly for one driver, who later died at the hospital after transport. According to a report from Kansas City Star, neither driver was wearing a seat belt in a head-on crash.
It appeared that one of the motorists was unconscious behind the steering wheel of one of the cars. Cleaver and three other bystanders helped pull the man to safety as fire quickly spread across the engine block, the statement said.

Neither driver was wearing a seat belt, according to police.
“I was just helping the same as every other person on the scene,” Cleaver said in the statement. “Tonight, my prayers will be for this man and his family during this holiday season.”
Rep. Cleaver, along with three other bystanders, helped pull the driver from a burning vehicle, giving him a chance to survive.
