Another day, another racist caught on camera spewing hatred at their fellow citizens. This week’s viral video comes from North Phoenix, Arizona, where an unnamed white woman took out her genocidal rage on an American woman of Puerto Rican descent who committed the non-crime of being Not White when she asked if a nearby table was taken on Tuesday.
It happened earlier this week at a Wildflower Bread Company in North Phoenix.
(Lennys Bermudez Molina) says it all started when she simply asked to sit down.
“She’s like, ‘Do I have a choice?’ And I said ‘Well, yes. You have a choice. That’s why I’m asking you.’ And she says: Well, I prefer white. Let’s just put it like that,’” Molina said.
That’s when Molina whipped out her phone.
The video is pretty unbelievable. The unidentified woman, whom, in homage to her Harley hoodie, I’ll call Genocidal Gemma, remained quite nonchalant as she spewed hatred at Molina, who later uploaded the video to Facebook.
MOLINA: Well, I have never been told that somebody prefers whites instead of me.
GEMMA: Yes, that would be me.
MOLINA: Apparently.
GEMMA: I would prefer that the whole freaking nation be white. How ‘bout that?
MOLINA: That’s lovely, lady.
GEMMA: Yes, indeed.
MOLINA: You know that’s never gonna happen, right?
GEMMA: Oh, it’s gonna happen. You’re gonna be wiped out. Trust me.
Genocidal Gemma quickly gathers her things, clearly eager to find a seat next to white people. As the racist packs up, Molina points out that she merely being polite when she asked Gemma if it was okay to sit down, since she was going through some papers.
MOLINA: But you prefer white people, not me.
GEMMA: Definitely!
MOLINA: Dear lord, what has the world come to?
According to Molina, Genocidal Gemma, who seems to have made no purchase at the cafe, eventually moved to an exterior table, until she was eventually asked to leave by Wildflower Bread Company staff. Later, she said, the manager walked her to her car for her safety.
In an interview with NBC affiliate 12 News, Molina defends her choice to post the video.
Molina came forward, she says, to show that racism is still alive and well. She feels like the current political climate is fueling the flames.
“These people have been empowered to voice their opinions and act on their opinions. I want to expose the situation so that people are aware that these things are happening, that these people are out there,” Molina said.
In an interview with CBS affiliate 3TV/CBS 5, the cafe chain’s founder supported Molina’s choice to speak up.
Wildflower founder, Louis Basile, says he was “saddened and shocked” by the video and that discrimination and racism have no place in his restaurants.
“We really embrace the diversity of not only our workforce but of course our customers,” said Basile. “If a guest is uncomfortable in one of our restaurants, we’d like them to come to the manager.”
As of this writing, Genocidal Gemma has yet to be identified, but hey, it’s a holiday weekend. Even Twitter sleuths take a break every once and awhile.
