I’m a CNN and political junkie, but there are times the commentators can get on my nerves. Even some of CNN’s contributors and pundits, who are opposed to the current administration’s lies and hurling insults to anyone and any institution who gets in the way, and not to mention the many Congress and Senate members who say they oppose Trump’s antics, they seem to justify or hem and haw his Tweets and actions.
Whenever Charles Blow is a panelist on CNN, I know I will get the straight truth, the reality, and no sugar coating when Mr. Blow analyzes the American phenomenon known as President Donald J. Trump. I particularly appreciate the blog that Pollwatcher posted, December 3, 2018, “Charles Blow I don’t believe we are reaching the end of a nightmare, but rather we’re entering one.”
There are many other CNN contributors and pundits who like Mr. Blow have given dire warnings about Trump and the administration’s unprecedented falsehoods, decorum on U.S. soil and on the global stage, as well as a host of other infractions by a United States president. I believe we should seriously consider how the President's actions today can and may negatively change our nation in many ways for years or generations to come.
Immigration, climate change, the economy, health care, gun reform, and injustice are just a few of issues that can negatively impact the U.S. and the world citizens due to Trump and his administration's decisions to:
1. refuse to pass legislation on immigration reform
2. pulling out of the Paris Climate agreement; EPA cuts
3. Tariffs; Trump's tax plan
4. gutting the Affordable Care Act
5. refusing to address a practical gun reform legislation
6. speaking to false equivalencies in regards to injustice
I agree with Pollwatcher when he says, “I continue to believe that most people are FAR from underestimating where Trump will go, and the pundits most certainly underestimate exactly what the Republican party truly is.” From that day, June 15, 2015, when Trump came down the infamous escalator in Trump Tower, I knew the people of the United States, unbeknownst, were entering a new ominous era.
I have been posing out warnings before the current sitting president of the United States was elected that he would be dangerous and IS dangerous now. I feel President Trump is poised to become an autocrat without saying so directly to the American people. Having a masters degree in public policy I know running a government and producing legislature is complicated and it's certainly not easy to circumvent a presidential actor who is behaving badly.
But Congress, the Senate, and the citizens need to do something now before it’s too late. Americans need to see through Trump’s tactics designed to divide the nation. This is not the time to be fooled and distracted by the President’s rhetoric as our democracy is currently in a tenuous state. As Pollwatcher stated, “...I don’t believe we are reaching the end of a nightmare, but rather we are entering one.”
I’m hopeful that Mr. Muller’s investigation will conclude with concrete proof that Mr. Trump had ill intentions as a presidential candidate and as an elected President he is not performing his presidential duties in the best interest of the American people. And lastly, he has not defended the Constitution of the United States as he vowed on January 20, 2017.
