Fallout
Bloomberg is serious enough about running that Bloomberg News reporters are concerned about what happens to them and how they’re supposed to cover the news if he actually declares.
Bloomberg’s options include a) selling Bloomberg LP, b) placing it in a blind trust (if such a thing were actually possible), or c) I imagine using it as an organ of his campaign. [Probably not legal, but who is going to stop him if he’s self-funding?!]
Radio Iowa: audio
...If he does run for president, Bloomberg told Radio Iowa he will either place his company in a blind trust or sell it.
“But I think at my age, if selling it is possible, I would do that,” Bloomberg said. “At some point, you’re going to die anyway, so you want to do it before then.”
If he follows through on his threat to run as a Democrat, he’d be the bluest of dogs. [And the D*mnedest of Yankees...] I personally cannot imagine his appeal to the country at large, although he does potentially have enough money and experience to build a national organization.
Stalking Horse
Now, even if he doesn’t make it to the debates, he could do us a service. Trump *hates* Bloomberg. It’s just one more thing to attract the orange *sshole’s attention, but if you recall how Trump went after Oprah, we could potentially affix his attention on a *real* billionaire while the rest of our candidates are building organizations, campaigning, etc. Sort of a sacrificial goat, so to speak. [sorry about the mixing of metaphors.]
I’m watching several candidates with interest and Bloomberg isn’t one of them. But if he can draw the ire of Trump, it could be a useful temporary measure. Michael Avenatti [correctly identified as an *sshole by Kos, h/t] demonstrated that for a brief time it is possible to get and keep Trump’s attention. There is only so much time during the day for tweeting.
Mueller is coming.
