On the twenty fourth of November Ray Hill passed away in Houston. He was a remarkable man whose legend encompassed advocacy for gay rights, civil rights, prison reform and was the host of The Prison Show, probably the best use of electromagnetic waves since they were discovered.
I won’t try and chronicle His extraordinary life in a diary; it would never fit and others have done it better than I could. There should be a movie. A good place to begin meeting his memory is here .
In the spirit of full disclosure I must mention that we once had an argument, during a KPFT call-in show, concerning … well I really don’t remember but he called me a nut-case and said the FBI should investigate me. Ray Hill was a lot of things but never a shrinking violet — I loved the Man.
I’ll leave you with this tribute that was paid to him by singer/songwriter Gerald Bates.
Rest Well Mr Hill
you did some
good work
