Looking at Christmas lights has always been one of my favorite parts of the holiday season. Of course, I happen to think the experience is better when there is snow on the ground, but there are still plenty of gorgeous Christmas lights in Houston.
On Tuesday night, the BF and I went to the Houston Zoo to see the seventh annual Zoo Lights:
The Houston Zoo is transformed into a winter wonderland! TXU Energy Presents Zoo Lights celebrates its seventh year as one of Houston’s most well-loved holiday traditions. Sip hot chocolate as you stroll through the beautiful Houston Zoo grounds and take in the sights and sounds of the season. Fifteen miles of earth-friendly LED lighting illuminate our ancient oak trees and decorate the paths to light your way.
Despite living so close to the zoo, I’d never ventured to see the lights before. At $15 to $20 per ticket, I guess it was a luxury purchase I didn’t consider worth the cost. But this year, thanks to one of our friends—who happens to be a ranger at the zoo—we were able to get in for free. And I have to say, as somebody who loves Christmas lights, I’ve really been missing out the past several years. We both thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and I think we’ll be going back next year, free tickets or not.
I thought I’d share some of our pics tonight. If Christmas lights aren’t your thing, I’ll see you in the comments below. For the rest of you, enjoy…
The lights around the fountain were my favorite part of the Zoo Lights—they were synchronized to Christmas music. This video is from last year, but it’s better than anything I was able to capture:
I’ll end with a picture of us in a tunnel of lights. I love this picture so much:
What do you want to kibitz about tonight?
