Good morning friends and loved ones. Its the Monday Good News Roundup, and if the election earlier this month was a one two knockdown punch to the Trump administration will be a haymaker. So lets get right to it.
First, the big news of the day:
The US president made the announcement to reporters following days of speculation that the retired four-star Marine general was about to resign from his post.
He did not say who would replace Mr Kelly, who he described as a “great guy”, but indicated that a decision would be made in the next day or two.
As Democrats get ready to start running the House and showing the GOP how its done, Trump is busy running his administration into the ground. Remember, Kelly was brought in specifically to “reign in” the White House chaos (and to his credit, he did get rid of Bannon), but the fact is that Trump IS chaos, the GOP will get nothing useful out of him, and he will bring them down with him.
So the question is, who is going to replace Kelly as the White House Chief of Staff? Well we know whose not going to get the job:
In the end, the two men were unable to agree on the terms of Ayers’ service. Ayers, who has young children, had told associates that he hoped to return to his home state of Georgia and could remain in the position only until the spring. Trump, on the other hand, wanted his next chief of staff to commit to serve for two years.
It’s the latest personnel drama in a White House that has suffered from unprecedented staff turnover and backbiting among senior aides. Trump’s previous two chiefs of staff, Reince Priebus and Kelly, were subjected to unflattering leaks and constant questions about their status with an often mercurial president, who regularly blamed them for blunders large and small.
With Ayers out of the picture, Trump now faces the challenging task of finding a chief of staff who is both capable of doing the job and, perhaps more important, willing to step into the West Wing hornet’s nest.
Yes dear readers, it seems impossible, fantastical ever, but it seems like Trump is running out of stooges willing to jump onto the burning trash boat that is the Trump administration. Oh what is a lying has been reality star to do? (Hint donny: It starts with an R and rhymes with esquire. Give up? Its Retire.)
And hey, why wouldn’t they be reluctant to sign on with Trump, because that burning trash boat has a big ol shark in the waters around it named Robert Mueller.
Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) said Sunday that special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia has moved into a "new phase" after new documents were released to the public.
Murphy suggested the new phase is headed toward impeachment, comparing President Trump to former Presidents Clinton and Nixon.
"We have reached a new level in the investigation. The special counsel is starting to show his cards and these are very serious allegations," Murphy told ABC's "This Week."
The walls are closing in Donny. TICK TOCK DONNY. TICK TOCK.
Now I know a lot of people are saying “None of this matters because the Senate will never impeach Trump as long as the Republicans control it.” Now you say that, but I’m pretty sure they said the same thing about Nixon. Case in point I submit the following Article:
This mythical theory about Watergate-era Republicans is one I’ve seen raised repeatedly, and, in light of the extent to which the modern-day Republican party has completely abdicated its responsibility to serve as a check on the unfit, irrational, power-hungry madman in the Oval Office, it is an understandable bit of revisionist history. The truth, however, is that Nixon continued to receive support from an overwhelming majority of his party until the bitter end, and, upon his resignation, still enjoyed a 25% public-approval rating thanks to the 1974 version of the red-hat-wearing MAGA crowd.
This article puts the lie to the idea that the Republicans of yesteryear were somehow more moral and willing to stand up to Nixon, when in reality they defended him the same way they defended Trump. So when the time comes? Mueller will bring the hammer down, and Trump will get the boot on his Presidential speed run (Shitty Presidencies done quickly).
When the Dems wont he house, I said that Trumps presidency wont reach the end of 2019. By this time next year we will have another President. Whether its Pence of Pelosi I cannot say, but it wont be Trump.
But I’ve gone on about Donny two scoops long enough, there are other matters that deserve my attention. Hey? how is the fight for Net Neutrality going?
Democrats are expected to use their upcoming control of the House to push for strong net neutrality rules — put in place by the Federal Communications Commission under President Barack Obama but pulled back by President Donald Trump’s FCC — highlighting how the once-wonky concept has become a national issue.
While net neutrality advocates are expecting a setback in the near term (a Senate effort to undo the FCC’s decision is expected to fail), public support for the concept combined with adoption from the Democrats has sparked renewed optimism.
Hey Ajit Pai, I hope you didn’t spend all the money you got from those big telecoms yet, because I got the feeling they’re gonna want a refund.
Anyways, that’s the good news for this morning. Before I go once again I want to plug the Good News Roundup Playlist, brought to you by Spotify. The official soundtrack of the Good News Roundup, almost six hours worth of music to get you in the resisting mood. Play it while you make postcards, while you draw signs, or when watching Trump shit all over our country on the news becomes too much to bear and you need decompress with some good music. Best of all? Spotify is entirely free (As long as you don’t mind ads. If you do you can pay to get rid of them, but its a good investment).
Actually, on the subject of the GNR Playlist, how would people feel about me adding the soundtrack of Hamilton to it? I discovered the music of Hamilton during the 2016 election (one of the few good things to come out of that fiasco) and I feel like it fits the mood of the resistance. Thoughts? Let me know in the comments.
That’s all for this week folks. Have a great Monday.
