There have been, if I figure it right, 2018 December the 16th (AD) dates in history. That’s a whole lot of important historical events that may have occurred on that date. Usually, CADreamin would pick one that piqued her curiosity (colonial history was her major). Hence, the picture I chose for this diary. However, CAD was unable to do a diary due to previous commitments.
Therefore, I have selected a few events that I believe are worth mentioning. You may, in your comments, add one or two of your own.
- 1773 - Boston tea party incident - Sons of Liberty protesters throw tea shipments into Boston harbour in protest against British imposed Tea Act.
- 1777 - Articles of Conferation (US 1st constitution) ratified by 1st state Virginia.
- 1809 - Napoleon Bonaparte was divorced from the Empress Josephine by an act of the French Senate. (For our Bonaparte fans).
- 1933 - Germany quits the League of Nations.
- 1944 - During World War II, the Battle of the Bulge began in Belgium. It was the final major German counteroffensive in the war.
- 1985 - Paul Castellano, the head of the Gambino crime family, then one of New York's largest Mafia families, is shot to death outside Sparks Steak House in Manhattan on the orders of John J. Gotti (and we know who took down Gotti, right?).
