George Will is fond of saying that Presidents’ Day is only about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.
On that point, he’s right. Presidents’ Day is not about President Nixon, who is not looking so bad these days, nor is it about President George W. Bush, who lied us into a war.
Nothing prevents us from celebrating a good president, like President Barack Obama. Let’s not forget that dum-dum Trump is not just trying to dismantle what Obama accomplished, but what all previous presidents accomplished.
“Make Russia Great Again” is what Trump’s dumb hats should say. Electoral College choice Donald Trump is a very low bar to compare presidents against.
Did Dr. Ronny Jackson ever even think of having President Obama take the Montreal Cognitive Assessment? Probably not, because no one has ever doubted Obama’s sanity and certainly not his basic cognitive faculties.
Maybe that test was administered to Bush after he choked on The Pretzel. Still, now we think maybe Bush wasn’t such a dummy like we used to think.
Supposedly Obama hated “the rule of law.” But that was really code for that Obama is not a white man.
But even on that characteristic of being a white president, Trump still manages to fall short of the mark, with his strange skin color and his aversion to performing many of the basic duties of the presidency.
When Trump had had the title of president for barely a few months, he had already gone golfing more often than Obama or Bush. Hopefully Trump is impeached and removed before he can set too many more records for golfing while in office.
I’m going to guess Trump doesn’t have any golf courses in Texas, because I don’t recall hearing anything about him visiting Sutherland Springs after the mass shooting there.
This Presidents’ Day, let’s remember that President Obama:
- signed the Affordable Care Act into law,
- rescued the economy from the Bush recession,
- signed Dodd-Frank into law,
- helped make a deal to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons,
- brought troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan,
- ordered SEAL Team 6 to kill Osama bin Laden,
- normalized relations with Cuba,
- established net neutrality,
- expanded Pell Grant funding,
- cut veteran homelessness by half,
- cut the federal deficit, and
- expanded the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
That’s just a selection from a list in a Washington Monthly article.
