Tuesday: A day to enjoy the retro.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group gives Kossacks a safe place to check in, a daily diary where we can let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, earthquakes, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It also allows us to find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, earthquakes etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a Kosmail and ask to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
We do have a diary schedule. But, when you are ready to write that diary, either post in thread or send FloridaSNMOM a Kosmail with the date. If you need someone to fill in, ditto. FloridaSNMOM is here on and off through the day usually from around 9:30 or 10 am eastern to around 11 pm eastern.
Monday: Crimson Quillfeather alternating with ZenTrainer
Tuesday: ejoanna
Wednesday: Pam from Calif
Thursday: art ah zen

Hi-ho IANites. I’m often hungry. How about you? I also love to go out to eat, especially at little delis or diners. They don’t have to be Jewish delis, but I do love them too. I’ll look for places with comfy booths and comfort food. I’m fully aware that these kind of restaurants are disappearing (although some newer chains, like The Black Bear Diner, do ofter a decent opportunity for that comfort food I lubz.)
This short New York Times piece caught my eye. I’m sharing it with you. And any similar cuisine memories or current recommendations you have to share are heartily welcomed!
YUMZ!!
Here’s the NY Times account, from February 27, 2018:
Smack in the middle of Los Angeles, Canter’s Deli has long provided Angelenos — a few of them famous — with a comforting respite in the wee hours of a weekday morning.
After the bars close, the decades-old landmark of a restaurant has stood ready to receive customers seeking endless coffee refills, a plate of pickles, enormous pastrami sandwiches and an entire booth they could claim for themselves.
But this month, the deli announced on Twitter that it was suspending weekday dine-in service between 3 and 8 a.m. Owners acknowledged that customers’ preferences have shifted to delivery (“most of you really like to eat our delicious sandwiches and black&white cookies at home in your pjs”) and appeared well aware of the need to keep sit-down dining available all night on Fridays and Saturdays (“We know you need us after the after parties”).
It’s a small alternation, sure, but a concerning one to some longtime locals who have watched the slow decline of Jewish delis in L.A., fretted over Gary Canter’s sudden death and become disheartened over the “C” grade the restaurant got from health inspectors last year.
Gentrification has already remade the corridor in which the deli resides. Critically acclaimed restaurants, a coffee shop hawking artisanal breakfast burritos and streetwear vendors with lines out the door now fill the district, which was once considered a hub of Jewish life in Los Angeles.
“Change is hard,” Canter’s tweeted. “But our food will still be the same.”
I am so sad when my fav hangouts disappear, even an old Denny’s. I have never been to Canter’s—I better hurry. Hop on a plane, plan a Road Trip south. . . Quick!
And to raise a little low blood sugar:
