I’ve been writing diaries since 2005. I signed up for a user name in 2004 with the user name navajo because I wanted to bring attention to Navajo Tribal issues and because I am Navajo by heritage. As the regulars know here, I recently changed my original user name to my real name, because I want to own what I write about and be accountable for it. I wrote a few diaries about Navajo issues but in 2005 I was quickly attracted to the idea of readers of Daily Kos meeting in real life. It started with a meet-up I missed in 2004, organized in Berkeley for readers to meet kos, the owner of the site. I was so bummed I missed that since I live in the Bay Area and because I loved all the participants at the site and wanted to hang with them in person.
I wondered, when would the next one be…
Nothing was announced for forever so I realized that I or anyone else could organize a meet-up and what’s stopping me from doing exactly that? So I organized one that 28 readers of Daily Kos came to in June 2005.
I wrote what has become my Modus Operandi at Daily Kos and that is diary packed with photos. Unfortunately, for that diary mofo Photo Bucket is holding my photos hostage for hundreds of dollars and I’m middle-fingering them. So the diary exists now sans photos, but read the captions and you’ll see who was there.
Talk about a fulfilling event. It was so great to meet in-person people who’s writing is amazing, like shanikka! And gina, who started the Yearly Kos Conventions which morphed into Netroots Nation.
I’ve been organizing the Bay Area since then to bond and be able to mobilize for political action. And I began to encourage all readers of Daily Kos to do the same.
I’ve published 667 diaries since I signed up. (How many have you written?) I covered Native American issues but mostly photo-documented the Netroots Nation conventions and local meet-ups as my claim to fame. The majority of those 667 diaries include this current series, Connect! Unite! Act!. It started in 2012. I wrote solely for 2 months, every day, and then realized I needed help. smileycreek (Fridays) and paradise50 (Thursdays) stepped up and have been helping me ever since. Six years, ppl. I’m devoted to those two. I cannot thank them enough for being the foundation of this series.
I’ve since recruited Chitown Kev for Mondays, ericlewis0 for Tuesdays, foresterbob for Wednesdays and bleeding blue for Saturdays. Substitute writers include Daily Kos Front Pagers Gabe Ortiz and Meteor Blades, Chris Reeves who is our Daily Kos Community Organizer, and angry marmot, a long time reliable community member. I worship the above people for agreeing to help me. I’ll always have their backs.
Here’s why I’m detailing all this history. For six years we’ve been coming up with light-hearted topics to create conversation and bring attention to the fact that YOU ALL should organize. But here I am, the week before my vacation and I need to come up with ANOTHER topic and, you know what? I’ve got nuthin’. I’ve been thinking about it for hours. And I got nuthin.
(BTW, I’m writing this at 11PM going on midnight, I had no topic this afternoon, I didn’t have one after dinner and I loaded the dishwasher instead because I had no topic. Now I’m too tired to do manual labor to procrastinate on this diary. So here’s your CUA diary.)
So this is all I’ve got. No topic. So let’s make the topic about you.
What is your history here at Daily Kos?
