All are welcome to join the fun, the silliness, the conversations. If you don’t know...just ask! Some things really do require a bit of explanation.
There will be a few surprises along the way, all good ones, we hope.
We are here to keep building the Daily Kos Community.
We post Mon-Sun at 10:30 a.m. Eastern. On Sunday we go to the C!U!A! posting to show support for all the work being done to promote Democratic candidates/causes. Please to join us there, as well.
Pie fights will be met with outrageous ridicule and insults. Trolls will be incinerated and served at the next group BBQ. As briquettes.
Do you have ways of remembering people’s birthdays?
I like to remember my friends’ birthdays by which astrological signs they belong to. That way, I remember, roughly, which month and week their birthday is in. I have noticed for some time now that I tend to be Aries heavy. Twelve. The next batch comes up within a spread from late Leo to early Scorpio. I learned this method from a person who was my housemate a long time ago. She used to mark up her calendar with all the birthdays of people dear to her. She also had typologies to go with these signs which never really stuck with me. But the way of remembering did.
So, I have a few birthdays coming up soon for which I have been asked to use paper to be the medium to fashion gifts from. They want paper gifts. At first I thought, yay! I’ll get ‘em books! Until one of them read my mind and sent an email saying books did not count, unless I hand made the books. And I thought, hell no!
It’s a thing we do. One year, I said clay was the medium. Only one of them’s a potter. The rest of the Aries contingent (and this is a game I play only with them...) had to come with up with ways of fashioning clay of their choice for a gift for me. There’s only one of me. There’s twelve of them. Gifts are frequently late. Very late. Everyone is very patient, and always very positive.
Paper is a new medium for me. I went hunting through Pinterest to look around to see what was going on with paper. Well! Aren’t you all the lucky Newd’ists!
Paper dresses. No. I’m not going to make paper dresses for anyone. Likely gifts will be paper jewelry with hand made paper boxes, with handmade cards.
Paper couture though, it’s a thing.
And I’m trying to understand why it makes me happy to know that it really is a thing.
And finally —
