Those polls* at the top of this wonderful site kind of annoys me. And I know I’m not alone. They are easy to remove with an ad blocker. However! I like to pause the blocker on this site as an extremely humble contribution. Happily, there’s another way to accomplish the same**:
This example is with the Chrome browser***
1. add the tampermonkey plug in (sounds scary, but totally safe****)
2. there should now be a little button that folds out a menu
3. click “create a new script”
4. a window appears with an editor and a bunch of default code. Remove all that (ctrl+a then delete)
5. Paste in the following code
// ==UserScript==
// @name Remove DK polls
// @namespace http://tampermonkey.net/
// @version 0.1
// @description try to take over the world!
// @author Thomas Lindegaard Jensen
// @match https://www.dailykos.com/*
// @grant none
// ==/UserScript==
(function() {
'use strict';
//var elements = document.getElementsByClassName('civiqs-embeds');
var elements = document.getElementsByClassName('election_iframe');
console.log('l',elements.length);
while(elements.length > 0){
elements[0].parentNode.removeChild(elements[0]);
}
})();
6. "save" in the “file” menu (not “save to disk”.)
7. refresh the page and let me know if it works 😄
8. Credit to the amazing 2thanks for the name of the thingy ❤️
Updated with instructions for Firefox below.
*It’s really not about the merits of those polls. That’s a different debate. The polls could come from the higher power herself, and they would still annoy me.
**If this is in any way in conflict with any site rules or regulations, please let me know and I will take it down right quick (but keep in mind that it’s really no different from stuff like #MAKA.)
***The process is very similar in firefox, and I remember some mature hippie dude telling me it worked fine. As for safari, I’d need to do a little research if there’s any interest.
****It’s basically just enabling you to modify anything you download. Like, e.g., replacing pictures of ditch mitch with turtles or something.
** UPDATE **
Thanks to Idontknowwhy (and Mokurai for digging it up), here’s some info on why civiqs sucks
