That was fast. West Virginia teachers went on strike Tuesday to protest an education bill that would have promoted charter schools and private schools … and within hours, the state House tabled the bill.
The state Senate had already passed the bill, but with schools across the state closed and teachers crowding the capitol, the Republican-controlled state House voted 53-45 to table the bill indefinitely. There’s still plenty to fix in West Virginia’s public education system, but at least this attack won’t be weakening it.
Check out these cheering teachers. Winning is great. Winning through organizing and movement power is especially great.
