Sometimes life doesn’t work out quite the way you planned it...well actually, that happens a lot, but anyhoo...that happened to a fella named Dean. And here’s how those “best laid plans” worked out for him!
But first a word from our sponsor:
RULES OF ENGAGEMENT —
- You know how this works, but as always, a gentle reminder:
- Pooties are cats; Woozles are dogs. Goggies are dogs, too, and moggies are cats. Birds...are birds! Peeps are people. PWB Peeps are Pooties, Woozle, Birds People.
- No trolling the diary.
- If you hate pootie diaries, leave now. No harm, no foul.
- Share any and all pootie/woozle photos or issues that you would like .
- If you have health/behavior issues with your pootie or woozle, feel free to bring it to the community. We just may have someone whose experience can help.
- Whatever happens in the outer blog STAYS in the outer blog. This is a place to relax and play; please treat it accordingly.
- There are some pics we never post: snakes, spiders, creepy crawlies, any and all photos that depict or encourage human cruelty toward animals. These are considered “out of bounds” and will not be tolerated.
- There is no such thing as stealing a photo around here, but if you would like a pic from the comment threads, please ask the poster. He/she may have a copyright to those pics. Many thanks!
It should not need to be said, but ANY/ALL photos that imply or encourage human violence against an animal will be considered verboten! Whether it is “comedic” or no
In late 2018, a 31 year old Scottish welder, Dean Nicholson, got bored of his job in Dunbar, Scotland and decided to do a bike tour of the world. He went solo...just him, his bicycle and all his needs packed on the frame. He aimed for the south ( north of Scotland being rather difficult to accomplish) and things went great thru the first 8 countries! Until he reached the Bosnian border into Montenegro ( see map)
He says he was cycling up a steep hill with his music going loud, when he heard a” meow”. A small cat was asking for his attention. He stopped and petted her, but she would have none of this “little bit of attention” thingy...she wound herself around his legs and demanded more cuddles. She refused to let him go on. Eventually he realised she’d purred her way into his heart. He also knew that her previous owner had dumped her in the middle of nowhere and she was hungry, so had no choice but to take her with him.
He made some room for her in his front pack, took her to the closest vet, fed her and decided to name her Nala after a character in the Lion King movie. And decided she would accompany him on his journey. He rearranged his front pack, bought her a harness and lead, and they were on their way.
Nala quickly showed her loving personality and adventurous soul. She loves traveling and is super relaxed and chill showing no signs of discomfort traveling long distances. Sometimes she jumps out of the box and sits on Nicholson’s shoulder. She attracts everyone’s attention and they always ask for a picture of her.
Dean couldn’t imagine a better travelling companion. They travelled and explored town after town, new places, hidden beaches and abandoned villas. Nala even braved kayaking!!
At the end of the year, Nicholson didn’t want to put their journey on hold, therefore, they traveled through the rain and cold, which caused Nala a chest infection. At that moment, the Scottish traveler realized how much he doesn’t want to lose his little feline so he decided to stay in a hostel for several weeks and wait for her recovery.
With Nicholson’s great care, Nala got well pretty quickly and they set off once again, however, this time with a more secure and waterproof setup for Nala. And of course, their bond became even stronger than ever.
It’s crazy how quickly your plans can change when you meet the right companion.
The adventure continues...
