Good evening, Kibitzers! The weather stayed cold here for quite a while, and then got warmer abruptly, so a lot of plants got sort of weirded out. As a result, this year’s crop of spring flowers is rather anemic (if a plant other than Audrey can be said to be anemic) and so is the corresponding batch of pictures. Luckily, I can just fill in with some of the delightful flowers that were already blooming in San Francisco a month ago.
I snapped a bunch of pictures in Union Square Park in San Francisco, and later briefly visited Filoli Gardens in Woodside — they were about to close, so basically we darted in for coffee and had to leave. (TheLittleOne took some beautiful pictures, found here.) And the small raggedy flowers will be the ones that bloom here on the edge of winter. 😉
The rather Frank-Lloyd-Wright-ish bench at right is in Union Square. If it had fit in my purse, and my carry-on, I’d have been sorely tempted to bring it home.
Let’s start in Union Square. I have no idea what a lot of these are; Californians may weigh in!
I think this orange flower is clivia, because I have a potted one, and I’ll guess the purple one is a salvia.
I’ll just sneak in a few subdued NJ flowers here — crocuses...
...squill...
...andromeda, daffodils. That’s it for here right now!
Back to California: these fabulous trees, holding their spanish-moss pets, were outside the gate of Filoli Gardens.
Inside, these gorgeous olive trees were in the parking lot.
And that’s about it! I’d love to see the rest of the gardens some day.
Yet a third hurricane season starts June 1, and Puerto Rico is still struggling to recover.
It is Day 566 since Maria made landfall in Puerto Rico.

The Daily Kos community has its own project: Puerto Rico resident Bobby Neary (newpioneer) leads a small team dedicated to helping a specific rural elder who was left by the storms without power, water, a roof, or any belongings but a moldy mattress. If you like to see concrete results, this is the project for you. See newpioneer’s diaries for ways to help. See this one in particular, and this comment with photos. See also his lovely and heartbreaking poem.
