Two real winners were arrested for vandalizing a memorial dedicated to African Americans last month at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Fifty-year-old Nancy Rushton McCorkle and 31-year-old Ryan Francis Barnett have been accused of defacing the Unsung Founders Memorial with racist graffiti as well as other acts of vandalism around the campus. The Unsung Founders Memorial was created in honor of “enslaved and free African American workers that helped build the University.”
According to the Winston-Salem Journal, McCorkle is a member in a group called Heirs to the Confederacy. Sort of like being called the Proud Losers of Dumb Terrorist Losers. The Winston-Salem Journal says McCorkle was seen at a rally in support of a Confederate statue in Downtown Winston-Salem, North Carolina, this January.
When the alleged vandals struck, at the end of March, UNC’s Interim Chancellor Guskiewicz wrote that besides the memorial, other racist language was graffitied outside of the school’s Hanes Art Center.
According to CNN, the inscription on the memorial, dedicated in 2002, reads: "The Class of 2002 honors the University's unsung founders—the people of color bond and free—who helped build the Carolina that we cherish today."
Their memory will last, but these two clowns will vanish into the night.
