I noticed that the cats were gone before I noticed that Timmy was missing. They knew he was gone and melted back into the neighborhood bushes, off to look for someone else to feed them.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

Timmy sat in front of his house, in an old plastic lawn chair, on the parkway under a tree. He watched the traffic pass, waved once in a while at one or another, and fed all the wild cats that came to his door. He never got them spayed so they multiplied and brought their young ones with them. They lay in his knee high weed front yard, basked in the sun on the deck of his never used boat, chased the occasional rat but that all ended when he let his electricity return to the cosmic pool to be reassigned, perhaps to a feral cat.
His family finally showed up, ordered a dippy dumpster, and started throwing away the collected junk that he deemed to be treasure. And the cats came back, hoping the new people would be as kind as the old, but I doubt it. I think they are on their own now.
The neighborhood was founded in the mid 1950’s to support the college that takes up the northern end of the complex. The original owners, mostly Dutch and Portuguese, are dying off. We have been here 30 years and I have seen so many of the older people who walked every morning or evening disappear like fog, with no warning or note left behind. I see their children come to clean up the house and put it up for sale. I see the new families move in with their small children, like we did so long ago. They used to see me walk my dog everyday but I can’t handle her alone now so I go with Mr. Zen on the weekends. My time to move on will come and Lil Zen will sell the house to a new owner, probably with children and the cycle will go on.
