I love and respect Joe Biden. I love and respect Bernie Sanders. So, why am I asking them to please withdraw from the 2020 Democratic Presidential Primary? In every hero’s journey there comes a time to step aside for the next generation. This is that time.
Joe, thank you for all your service. Your legacy is golden. But, you have possibly the worst case of political “foot-in-mouth” in modern history. Words conservative media will use to eviscerate you. The allegations from women against you aren’t new. You have always had a reputation for being “handsey.” No, I don’t think you are a terrible person but this is 2019 and frankly it doesn’t play well, especially with the majority of voters, women. Look what Bill’s reputation did to Hillary. Joe, you will be running against the groper-in-chief, in this case a level playing field is not very desirable.
Bernie, I love your ideas, your enthusiasm, your passion. But to a lot of people your intensity can be a major turnoff. Then there is the “S” word, socialism. It’s a label one can’t escape from in a general election. It’s a red meat word to some very hungry right wingers.
We have a field of very diverse, young, and dynamic candidates, from all walks of life, filled with fresh ideas, and visions for the future. Your candidacy will only serve to suck up their media oxygen and monies. And, in the end, I do not believe either of you will win the nomination.
Joe, Bernie, it’s your collective time to pass the metaphorical baton. To support and mentor.
Our country is in chaos. Our planet is in peril. We need fresh leadership, fresh blood to take on the Trumpian forces of evil.
We need a hero.
I (we) need a hero, I'm holding out for a hero
'Til the end of the night
He's (or she) gotta be strong
And he's gotta be fast
And he's gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero, I'm holding out for a hero
'Til the morning light
He's gotta be sure
And it's gotta be soon
And he's gotta be larger than life
