We recently lost our cat, Kenny Jose, on March 28 and I wrote a diary HERE.
Kenny Jose was diabetic with blood sugar readings off the chart. We faithfully gave him insulin shots twice a day for over two and a half years. We also faithfully followed the diet that our vet recommended. All of this turned out to be quite expensive but we made sacrifices in other areas to provide Kenny Jose the best that we could.
We eventually found the cheapest prices for both his dry and wet food on chewy.com and signed up for their automatic shipments. The last couple of months of Kenny Jose’s life, he was not eating well so our vet recommended chicken or actually anything we could get him to eat. Chicken livers became the main thing we could entice him with. So our stockpile from Chewy started building up.
Once Kenny Jose passed, we thought it was a long shot but we called Chewy to see if we might return the unopened food as it was quite expensive. No problem they responded that they would provide a refund. We asked how to return it and they requested that we donate it to an animal shelter. The refund immediately showed up on our credit card. Wow.
We had 2 ten lb. bags and over 40 wet food cans. I called our local food bank to see if someone with a diabetic cat could use it. They stated that they would just put it on the shelves and anyone could take it. We decided to give it to our vet’s office as they would know a rescue group that could use it for one of their diabetic cats.
And so we thought this was it until a surprise arrived yesterday. A UPS driver presented me with a package yesterday that contained two dozen tulips with a vase. I couldn’t imagine who sent them and my mouth dropped open when I read the card.
I still cannot believe this. I once worked for an engineering company that would send flowers to employees who lost a pet. I have never heard of a business doing this especially an online company!
Yes, we keep moving the tulips around.
The donated food and flowers had to have costed them well over $200. What a bright light in a world of ripoff businesses. Thank you Chewy as you will continue having us as customers. You truly made our day and I had to share it with others.
For the record: I do not have any ties to Chewy, do not know anyone that works for them and don't really even know their locations. I also do not know if they do this for all their customers but did this just for us being loyal customers. Yes, I am aware of some online bad reviews but wanted to share our experience.
Update 1:27 pm.
I thought you would enjoy seeing Chewy’s response to me about this diary.
