Before the Mueller Report came down I was pretty solidly convinced that proceeding with impeachment of Trump was a waste of time and energy. No matter the result on the House, there was no way the Senate would convict. It would siphon energy and focus away from the 2020 races and be nothing more than feckless strategery, to revive a Bushism.
Now.…
I’m wondering if Elizabeth Warren is right. The current situation is exponentially graver than lying about a blowjob twenty years ago. It’s almost as if Mueller was teeing up a bunch of shots for Congress to follow up on. Another diarist has already pointed out AG Barr’s biggest blunder: characterizing the Muller report as giving him the discretion of whether to launch further investigations or actions, when the report explicitly mentions that Congress has the prerogative to continue following the trails.
if the House, in the light of day, shines more light on the cess pool of the Trump crime family’s corrupt dealings through impeachment proceedings, any Republican in the Senate who votes AGAINST conviction would be handing their opponents a huge gift. Republicans would probably try to run out the clock so there would be no Senate vote before November.
I wonder if others are finding the Impeachment Calculus shifting.
