75% of Americans say they actively choose to listen to music, which is more than they claim to actively choose to watch TV (73%). The difference from times past, however, is that the way we individually tune is as unique as the ear buds or headphones we sport while listening. www.nielsen.com/...
Ear buds and headphones? I don’t think that’s good for your ears. I’ll stick to BIG speakers.
We have gone from phonograph cylinders, to vinyl, to 8 tracks, to cassettes, to digital music on CD’s, to pure digital music. Some say the sound of digital music is superior to all else. I say vinyl.
I do happen to believe in the superiority of vinyl, though I like CD’s because they are almost impossible to damage.
I listen to radio in my car and I’m in my car a lot, at least an hour every day, sometimes more. I listen to NPR mostly, am and fm. If they are talking about something I’m not interested in, which is very rare, I’ll scan the dial. I recently found a great local LPFM station, WXNA that covers the whole city with a wide range of really good, commercial free, music.
I also keep 6 CD’s loaded in my car player at all times. At home I listen to music on a little CD/Mp3 player, or on my stereo with big ass speakers. I am a real snob about sound quality.
At one of my jobs I listen to the radio on client’s radios. One in particular is a Republican with the radio always set to Rush Limbaugh, I delight in switching both house radio’s to NPR. Every week she switches it back. We’ve been doing this for about 15 years.
One of my clients just got rid of their nice radio and have a little docking station for a digital device. No. Just no. I can’t listen to that tinny shit. Plus, I don’t own any kind of MP3 device.
So, how do you listen to the radio?
