In an interview last week on the podcast Skullduggery, Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan discussed Israel, Palestine, and the tragedies the peoples of both have experienced.
During an interview with Yahoo's "Skullduggery" podcast released on Friday, Tlaib said, "There's kind of a calming feeling I always tell folks when I think of the Holocaust, and the tragedy of the Holocaust, and the fact that it was my ancestors, Palestinians, who lost their land and some lost their lives, their livelihood, their human dignity, their existence in many ways, have been wiped out, and some people's passports."
"I mean, just all of it was in the name of trying to create a safe haven for Jews, post-the Holocaust, post-the tragedy and the horrific persecution of Jews across the world at that time, and I love the fact that it was my ancestors that provided that, right, in many ways," Tlaib went on to say. "But they did it in a way that took their human dignity away, right, and it was forced on them. And so when I think about a one-state, I think about the fact that, why couldn't we do it in a better way?"
You don’t have to be a genius to glean what Rep. Tlaib is getting at. This is not a condemnation of anyone. It’s definitely not a glib handling of the Holocaust. It is a question about how things could be better in Israel. However, the shit-for-brains Republican Party, arguably the most complicit political party with anti-Semitism since the 1930s, believes that the most traction it can get in fighting the changing times is to attack women of color, specifically Muslim women representatives, in the hope of dividing and conquering the Democratic Party.
Republican racist Whip Steve Scalise released an insane statement that shows he suffers from illiteracy or hearing loss, or is just a terrible person. SPOILER ALERT: He’s a terrible person. Scalise wrote, “There is no justification for the twisted and disgusting comments made by Rashida Tlaib just days after the annual Day of Holocaust Remembrance.”
Here’s a reminder that Scalise has called the concept of protecting immigrant children going to school in the United States “devastating.” Not to be outdone, the daughter of an unindicted war criminal, and a “torture apologist,” Liz Cheney tweeted this out.
I guess that’s what passes for reading comprehension in the Cheney home? Finally, the most powerful white supremacist in the country weighed in.
Tlaib knows that part of what makes the Republican Party so dangerous is how dumb it is.
Rep. Ayanna Pressley knows how banal and cliched this right wing tactic is.
Let’s find out what the Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi thinks of this bogus hate-baiting.
They can create as many sideshows as they like, but conservatives in this country need to know that it’s not simply their shitty, ass-backwards ideas that the majority of Americans are fed up with—it’s their moral, ethical, and legal corruption that Americans want destroyed.
