According to a story in the Bellingham Herald a PAC was inspired by the documentary RBG to create a beautiful knitted collar for the Notorious RBG.
In the documentary Ginsburg shows off a closet of the delicate collars, many of which are hand-crafted.
This collar was a group effort by the Riveters, who formed in 2016 as a way to recruit candidates and draw attention to campaigns. They drew their name from Rosie the Riveter.
The woman who was inspired, Eowyn Savela, helped others in the group add on to the collar by teaching them to knit a few stitches or even rows.
“I thought it would be so much more fun if everybody did it,” Savela said. “We got people to put all their love and care into this collar. She fought for equal rights for everybody. We wanted to give back to this person who we admire so much.”
Savela mailed the collar March 30 with a note describing how more than a dozen women added a stitch or two or even several rows of wool. On Saturday, a note dated April 5 arrived in the mail.
“(Savela) made it happen, and she brought the rest of us along,” said Riveters co-founder Elizabeth Hartsoch.
Ginsburg was so touched by the gesture that she has promised to wear the beautiful yellow collar on the last day of arguments for this session.
The article includes a picture of Savela modeling the delicate lace collar. It is a beautiful piece of craftsmanship and will look lovely on RBG’s neck as she hears arguments.
