Seems like we’ll soon reach the McDonalds point with Dem candidates for president — billions running. And yet, the most important races are for purple / reddish state Senate seats.
We’re all wound up about the risk to Roe and other cases with this Supreme Court. That risk doesn’t get much less if a Dem wins the White House but Mitch McConnell keeps the Senate. President Obama had a Supreme Court pick and Mitch said “no”.
So if President Biden|Sanders|Warren|Harris, etc. gets to nominate a replacement for RBG |Breyer, what makes anyone here think that Mitch won’t say “no” and just wait for another Republican president. With RBG or Breyer gone, the SC becomes a 5-3 vote which is just fine for Mitch and the Republicans.
We need to be asking candidates why they aren’t running for Senate if they come from a state with a Senate seat up in 2020.
When they say they want an executive job, we need to remind them that one of the hallmarks of good executives is that they make sacrifices for their people / the cause. If you’re saying ‘it’s President or bust because I’m executive material’ while leaving the rest of us at risk because you don’t want to be one of 100 who could help repair this county, you’re neither executive material nor deserve our vote.
Just a reminder:
Colorado — John Hickenlooper
Georgia — Stacey Abrams
Montana — Steve Bullock
Texas — Beto O’Rourke or Julian Castro
None of these will be the Democratic nominee for President. Just think what the Senate would be like if we could capture these seats.
It’s not too late.
