Welcome, welcome, welcome!
At long last, Game of Thrones has been won...and lost.
By now, most of us have seen or streamed the ending, so it’s safe to discuss.
That’s the only warning you get to run if you haven’t seen the Series Finale.
All are welcome to join the fun, the silliness, the conversations. If you don’t know...just ask! Some things really do require a bit of explanation.
There will be a few surprises along the way, all good ones, we hope.
We are here to keep building the Daily Kos Community.
We post Mon-Sun at 10:30 a.m. Eastern. On Sunday we go to the C!U!A! posting to show support for all the work being done to promote Democratic candidates/causes. Please to join us there, as well.
Pie fights will be met with outrageous ridicule and insults. Trolls will be incinerated and served at the next group BBQ. As briquettes.
Other things going on……
I missed this in yesterday’s list of whatevers…...on 20 May 1310, shoes were made for both the right and left feet! That means, effectively, that we’ve been putting our shoes on the wrong feet for seven hundred years...and a day. Think about that, next time you’re trying to get yer slippers on to take the dog out! ;-)
While ambling through history, I came upon a mention of today’s date in 1793 that Curacao Island Council forbids criticism of House of Orange. Fergawdsake, don’t tell Trump. We don’t wanna be giving him ideas!
In 1881 Clara Barton founded the Red Cross...and we’ve been giving them blood ever since!
In 1914, the Greyhound Bus Company began in Minnesota! I knew about Greyhound; I had no idea they were from MN!!
In 1929, Automatic electric stock-quotation board was installed, NYC. Gee. Bet they were glad they had that sucker in October!
In 1960 Leontyne Price became the first African-American to sing the lead at Teattro alla Scala (Milan) in Aida.
I did this for all of us who love opera:
From the sublime to the wth?…..
In 1968, Paul McCartney and girlfriend Jane Asher attend an Andy Williams concert! (Not that there’s anything wrong with that!)
In 1980, Star Wars, Return of The Jedi opens in North America and the UK.
and, because it made me laugh….Happy Birthday to Aurelia Cotta, Mother of Julius Caesar, born in Rome in 120 BC. (d. 54 BC) Oh, Mrs. Cottaaaaaaaaa!!!
Also, Happy Birthday, Al Franken (1951)!
New Day Cafe is an Open Thread!
What’s on your mind this morning?
