With 14% reporting in Kentucky, state House Minority Leader Rocky Adkins holds a wide 44-31 lead over state Attorney General Andy Beshear on the Democratic side, with former state Auditor Adam Edelen earning just 23%. However, smaller rural counties in eastern Kentucky that strongly favor native-son Adkins have been among the first to report, while there’s still very little in from Lexington or Louisville, two major sources of Democratic votes where Beshear and Edelen are expected to do better.
On the Republican side, Gov. Matt Bevin leads underfunded state Rep. Robert Goforth by a very underwhelming 51-40. However, like Adkins on the Democratic side, Goforth is doing best in the rural eastern counties that have reported more results first.
