On the heels of passing one of the strictest abortion laws in the country, it’ s reported that Alabama Public Television decided not to air an episode featuring a same-sex marriage on the children’s cartoon show, “Arthur.” The episode shows the wedding of the character Mr. Ratburn to a character named Patrick. The episode was supposed to air last week, but instead, the station opted to show a rerun.
Here is the station’s statement, according to NBC:
“The vast majority of parents will not have heard about the content, whether they agree with it or not...Because of this we felt it would be a violation of trust to broadcast this episode.”
What? What does that even mean? Given that same-sex marriage is legal across the country, wouldn’t it be a violation of trust not to broadcast the episode? Why was it just Alabama that opted not to allow the episode to air?
What is happening in the state to cause it to be so overtly odious and disgustingly righteous? There are good people in Alabama who probably feel like the majority of this country feels about having an illegitimate, lying, scamming, the corrupt, sexual-predatory person in the Oval Office along with his trail of sniveling GOP loyal servants. But I digress.
CNN also reports the same Alabama Public TV station refused to air a show in 2005 showing two mothers. When a state is too “conservative” to air an episode of two people in love getting married and sharing their lives together, we need to start talking to Alabama about how they can secede from the nation. Surely there’s a way?
