Watching Season 1 of the Our Planet documentary series was such a treat, so I thought I’d share some clips with y’all this evening. I grew up watching Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom, then later enjoyed Meerkat Manor, so this new series was tailor-made for someone like me.
Sir David Attenborough (I could listen to him all day) narrates as Our Planet takes us on a journey through the natural wonders of jungles and seas and deserts and forests and glaciers, with so many breathtaking shots of scenery, of course, but also of rarely photographed wildlife, insects, and sea creatures.
As the World Wildlife Fund explains, “More than just a showcase of the planet’s wonders, Our Planet aims to inspire people around the world to understand the natural world as never before.” Every episode was simply breathtaking.

Here’s Attenborough talking about biodiversity (unfortunately, the embedded tweet videos seem to be glitchy today, so I’ve linked below just in case):

To be honest, I’d be more appreciative of the role that mosquitoes play in the food chain if I weren’t almost always on their menu.

I thought this fungus clip was fascinating as well:

The companion book for Our Planet is, of course, gorgeous:
