Sec. Castro had great campaign swing through California. He was interviewed at the Unity Freedom Forum in Pasadena on Friday, and left the stage with a rousing, “Vamos a ganar” to the appreciative audience. That translates to “Let’s win!” or “We’re going to win!”
That particular forum, which focused on immigration, included questions from the moderators and audience members. One of the questioners gave his entire several minute question in Spanish, and Castro replied in kind, and then continued in English. As the first candidate and the only candidate with an incredibly comprehensive immigration plan, he had the bona fides on this important subject.
From Pasadena he headed north to San Francisco, site of the California Democratic Party Convention. There was also another forum, the MoveOn Big Ideas Forum on Saturday.
Former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro also surprised many in the audience of invited MoveOn members and friends by talking about an issue he hasn’t discussed in his campaign, police brutality. He was the only candidate to unveil a new policy proposal at the event.
“How many of these videos (of police killings of African Americans) do we have to have to understand that even though we have some great police officers, this is not a case of bad apples?” Castro said. “The system is broken.”
