Sec. Castro first visited Flint in 2016 when he was HUD Secretary. Today’s trip marks his first trip back, and the first from one of the current Democratic candidates for President.
He had 3 stops on his agenda today. The first stop was a tour of a Farmer’s Market with Mayor Karen Weaver, and Rep. Dan Kildee.
Next up was a visit to Trinity Missionary Baptist Church which is the site of a several times weekly water distribution site.
It’s important to acknowledge the generosity of Jaden Smith who recently donated a filter system that can fill large containers in a minute. So this is a huge improvement for people that have had to refill 16oz bottles. This week he announced he was bringing a second filter to the same site.
While at Trinity he met with community leaders to discuss the continued problem and recovery efforts.
Finally, Castro held a town hall meeting with local residents at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.
Tomorrow Castro travels to Iowa for a Pride Parade in Des Moines, followed by a swing through New Hampshire before returning to Iowa.
