It has been a busy, long week here at Casa Brillig, but today? Today was one of those days you savor. Grab a glass of something YOU savor, and hop below the Story Break so I can explain exactly why today was a good day.

Let’s see, where to begin about the week just passed. Mr. Brillig was traveling for work. You know how Monday is always the worst work day of the week? Our family’s way of saying a day was horrid was “It was a Monday”. Well, his four days of travel were all Mondays, culminating in a 4am wakeup call to catch his flight home.
We got some very bad news about our pup on Wednesday, that what we hoped was a respiratory infection was, in fact, a sarcoma in her nose. Inoperable, not treatable, and the future is in the hands of the Universe. She’s home and back to her normal self, except now we know why the sneezes and snorting sounds. Casa Brillig is going to make sure she has her very best life from now until it’s time, and yes I had to stop typing there and find the rapidly dwindling pile of tissues.
Oh, and I got a grand total of three hours sleep last night because Reasons, and I have no idea how I managed to stay awake with minimal caffeine. But here we are, and if there are weird typoes and missing links, I blame Mister Sandman.
BUT
Wednesday was last day of school for K2, so I now have ::gasp:: a rising high schooler as my youngest child, and I have NO idea how that happened. He’s focused on getting himself into the best shape of his life in hopes of making the JV soccer team instead of the Freshman team, so he can compete against his best friends in another school district, who are two years older than him.
I am thoroughly enjoying having K1 home for what is likely her last summer, as next year she’ll be in summer Graduate school for an accelerated Masters. Yes, the kid who only just a few days ago was in elementary school.
Today was an utterly gorgeous day. Warm enough for shorts but not so hot you don’t want to be outside. Sunny, blue sky, the epitome of Summer Day. While K2 was on the soccer field w friends, the rest of us walked the mile into the center of town to get caffeine, then walked back slow and leisurely. We got lots done inside and out of the house, and then tried a new-to-us local Indian restaurant with hands-down the best chicken tikka we’ve ever had. I’m sitting here with a glass of Zin, a happy heart, a warm snuffly pupdog next to me, and a sense that while the mysteries of Life aren’t fair sometimes, overall the Universe doesn’t suck. I’m grateful that in the midst of stress and sadness, I can be reminded of love, joy and beauty in life. I hope you are too.

Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down.

From BeninSC:
I am submitting this comment from sfbob, posted in my diary last night about Armistead Maupin’s Letter to Mama. I think the reason that the artists reading that letter aloud found it so emotional is because, as sfbob so clearly stated, it was REAL. Human. Honest. Vulnerable.
From ScottyUrb:
There's plenty to like in MetroGnome's comment about Michigan! My favorite part is the jab at Mitt Romney's spinelessness.

Is a fine two comment thread by Onomastic on the joyful warriors. First one is here, and second one is here.

Is this fine comment by pollwatcher, attempting to explain the real purpose and importance behind an impeachment inquiry. Please read.
