For awhile now, there has been one diary after another about the 2020 candidates. Most are supportive, but a few have shown signs of ‘my guy is better than yours because yours is a loser’ type of debate.
Polls asking who you will support- or vote for. Like- give me an answer now, before debates, before there’s been time to pay attention to what each one is saying. Or doing. Or getting the most donations by the most people. And he said/she said, she did/he did media battles either made up or real.
I don’t have time for this.
My district came very close to flipping our congressional seat blue last year. A local village race for mayor just knocked down a republican challenger, so we are gung-ho ready to go with our local elections. We need to turn our town blue.
This is where my focus is right now. This, and the inhumane conditions at the border. The fear-mongering against immigrants.
But it’s the local elections that matter the most. Republicans are republicans, whether they be in the White House, Congress or on the town board. Our Democratic County Supervisor is up for re-election. He needs all my support, and he has it.
You know, I remember (and have been reminded by watching history documentaries) that Kennedy announced his candidacy for president in January 1960 for an election that would take place that November. Ten months to campaign without social media, in the early days of TV coverage, with no smart phones.
Don’t get me wrong. I have my favorites- several candidates who right now could have my vote. But I’m not even considering how to whittle that down to one until after November 2019.
There is too much at stake. Turning my town council blue will be a huge momentum to flipping our congressional seat in 2020. Which is where, again, most of my energies will be put to work.
It goes without saying that whoever wins the nomination will get me vote. Hands down. And I know that in this crowded but qualified field, the best of the best will be chosen.
Just can’t get into debates about that now. I have more important things to do.
