On to the closing remarks!
Swalwell: Have I mentioned that I’m young and a father? Joke about his daughter’s diapers not smelling as bad as Washington. “This generation demands bold solutions.”
Williamson: “I’m sorry we haven’t talked more tonight about how we’re going to beat Donald Trump.” Trump has “harnessed fear for political purposes and only love can cast that out.” She’s going to harness love for political purposes.
Bennet … is a little unfocused, starting with his Holocaust survivor mother but moving on quickly.
Hickenlooper is a small business owner who brought that scrappy spirit to make Colorado one of the most progressive states in America. Marijuana legalization, background checks, methane regulations. “You don’t need big government to do big things” — warns of turning toward socialism.
Gillibrand: “Women in America are on fire … but our rights are under attack like never before.” Will take up the fights no one will. “Now is not the time to play it safe. Now is not the time to be afraid of firsts.”
Yang thanks his supporters. “I am proof that our democracy still works.” Touts his “vision of a trickle-up economy” and support from independents and libertarians. His vision is not left or right but forward.
Harris: “We need a nominee who has the ability to prosecute the case against four more years of Donald Trump and I will do that.” Ends with a pitch to her campaign website.
Buttigieg: Cites his experience writing a letter to his parents in case he died in service, his experience in a marriage made possible by a Supreme Court vote.
Sanders: People are watching this debate thinking these are good people and they have good ideas but how come nothing ever changes? Nothing will change unless we have the guts to take on Wall Street, the pharmaceutical industry, etc.
Biden wants “to lead this country because I think it’s important to restore the soul of this nation.” Attacks Trump directly. “We’ve got to unite the United States of America as much as anybody says we can’t.”
